Web Site History and Update Plan

This page references the proposed work, and maintenance on this web site. The list determined by the Web Subcommittee is complete except for an oral history.

This website was built using Macromedia Dreamweaver 3.0, Adobe Photoshop 5.0 and Adobe Pagemaker 6.5. The camera used is a Canon EOS 30 SLR, with EF 28-135 IS USM lens, in most cases.

Work completed in July 2008

1. Updated sound files for Bill Brooks.

Work completed in March 2002

1. Updated all KHA Reference numbers for Namadgi Huts to match the latest hut list.

2. Updated all KHA Reference numbers for Kosciusko Huts to match the latest hut list.

3. Loaded five profiles for Victorian Huts from David Steer.

4. Updated and corrected the Tasmanian Huts list, included four profiles from James Moon.

5. Instigated the Bulletin Board.

6. Loaded the first five maps.

7. Added seven locations on the GPS page.

8. Upgraded photos for Hainsworth, Gavels, Tantangara and Currango huts.

9. Upgraded all Newsletter items to number 113, and corrected all links.

10. Updated the Calendar of Events for Q2, 2002.

11. Added all known links of Caretaker groups, where they have a published, public website.

Phase II work, 2002

The webmaster was working on the following items in January and February 2002.

1. Development of a Bulletin Board

2. Loading of a small selection of Audio stories.

3. Putting up some maps with key huts on them.

4. Loading of a complete list of photographs, for all standing huts in Namadgi and KNP - largely done.

5. Ongoing inclusion of hut sites and ruins, where there is still something to see.

6. Inclusion of biographical details for key people.

7. Improvement of the standard profile pages, by inclusion of some text for each hut, commencing with Namadgi.

8. Ditto for major and popular huts in Kosciusko.

9. Improvement of the measurement system, that determines which pages visitors are interested in.

10. Links to more photographs of huts in Victoria

11. Links to more photographs of huts in Tasmania.

12. Scan and include some very key documents of historical value, to the site, eg grazing leases, key heritage letters etc.

13. Improving the range of GPS positions on the GPS page.

Past work:

The most recent KHA Web subcommitte meeting occured on Thursday 23 November 2001. Agreed projects included the following (not in any particular order):

1. Complete online Membership form in PDF format. - Done.

2. Do context edits on history and intro sections. - Done.

3. Write Meta Tags for key Templates, place with key search engines Google, Altavista, Answers, Wombat, Lycos. - Done.

4. Make a correction to dates on the Calendar of events for February 2002. - Done.

5. Request closure of old KHA Site. Done, but not achieved!

6. Include more items from Newsletters 109, 110 and 111. - Done.

7. Include the next hut maintenance activities in the Calendar of Events. Done for Namadgi only.

8. Contact Jim Hart for photo archive pictures of less well known huts.

9. Committee to write to Caretaker groups, to request their approval to have their names included on the web site.

10. Update the template tags to include "Projects", "Newsletter", "Links", "Feedback", "Characters", "Conservation" etc. - Done.

11. Build feedback email system for hut repairs - emails to Linda TBC. - Done.

12. Build a section with photograph and details of Patron, Robert Pallin - Done.

13. Build a section, storyand photgraph of Strezlecki and Count Kosciusko. - Done.

14. Write article on Web site for Newsletter. - Done.

15. Include links to key related organisations such the key retail outlets, walking clubs, supportive 4WD clubs, environmental organisations, Bureau of Meterology. - Done and ongoing. Other Huts list now included.

16. Include GPS positions for selected huts - verify data is accurate first. - Ongoing - first page up.

17. Build a "Chat" bulletin board. Too hard without Server side software - in abeyance.

18. Turn "Storytelling" into Bush Yarns. Meet with Mathew Higgins to discuss placing of digital recordings on the site, for interviews and stories.

19. In the section "Huts in Other States", provide links to other known and relevant hut web sites. - Done.

20. Scan photographs for most huts and include. Scanning done, inclusion ongoing.
