Jane Wheaton
Jane began on the KHA committee as the Secretary in 1996 and 1997.
After attending one workparty (just to satisfy a couple of insistent
committee members) she found she was hooked, and in May 1998 took up
the position of HMO North.
Shortly after came an unexpected move for the family, to a job in Washington
DC. Returning to Australia at the start of 2002, Jane again took up
the HMO North role, a job that she revels in.
Jane grew up on a farm near Corryong on the southern edge of the Snowies,
spent nearly 14 years in the RAAF as a logistics officer and joined
KHA in the mid eighties. She is married to Chris, and mother of Rebecca,
aged 10 and Cameron, aged 8. Jane has trekked in Nepal, travelled to
as many of North America’s national parks as the family could manage
during their stay, and has bushwalked in SA, QLD, Tas, NSW and Vic.
In addition to bushwalking, camping, and cross-country skiing, her
other loves are music, history and native gardening (and chocolate,
say the kids). Jane’s ambitions (apart from building a hut near the
Broken Dam site) include finding more time to spend in the mountains,
and returning one day to the high desert country of south west USA to
explore more of its mountains, ghost towns and Indian ruins.
Jane was made a Life Member of KHA in June 2007.
