These dramatic photographs show both the devastation
after the fires, and the incredible effort which NPWS and fire officers
put to saving many of the huts and homesteads in Kosciuszko National
Park.

Brooks Hut, burnt beyond recognition. Lost is a favourite
haunt of ski tourers heading from Kiandra to Kosciuskzko. A photo
of this hut standing is shown on the cover of Klaus Hueneke's book
Huts of the High Country. Photo by Jane Wheaton Feb 2003.

Delaneys Hut, which used to sit just off the Snowy
Highway. Photo Jane Wheaton 2003.

Even this was not enough to save the famous Mt Franklin
Chalet, shown before it was burnt, above.

Happy Jacks Hut, was overshadowed by a eucalypt tree
that had been slated for removal as a fire hazard! This hut was also
known as Happy Jacks 3 & 4 being a combination of two huts. Photo
